Trivia
- Italy was planned as a civilization for the base game Age of Empires III alongside Sweden, but both were cut and did not make it into the game; eventually both were made playable in Wars of Liberty. Most of the original Italian design focused on medieval units, while Wars of Liberty modernizes their roster for the mod's timeline (1789-1914). But Much Like Sweden It Was Used In Definitive Edition
- Italy's Drama card used to be an Age IV card that was based on your number of Merchants, allowing you to cripple the economy of an unsuspecting opponent if you had high Merchant population. The card was later changed to Age I and Architects instead of Merchants, severely decreasing its potential strength.
- Although the Villager voicelines were borrowed from the Napoleonic Era mod, most units use voice lines taken from the game Napoleon: Total War
